Every year in June, the Cinemateca de Cuba, in coordination with the German Embassy in Cuba and the Goethe Institute, holds a German Film Week in Havana.
The event has allowed Cuban audiences to see many films that together make up a comprehensive panorama of German cinema.
“It was in 1995 that we first held a German film showcase at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, and since then we have held that showcase every December and another one in the summer, around this time, so that there are two important events with recent films. We always try to make sure they are the latest on the market, to bring them to the Cuban audience, which has really become a friend of German cinema.” — Petra Röhler, cultural section of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Havana
